Firenze- the heart of Italy
Florence, located in the heart of Tuscany, is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. With it's friendly people and great cuisine, it's a wonderful place to enjoy life. Florence is fairly small (pop. 500,000) compared to other cities in Italy. But it's impact on Italian history is considerable. Florence was the birth of the Renaissance, and Harding students have the opportunity to visit some of the world's most famous works of art. You can't travel to Florence, and not mingle with the people. The Florentines are guaranteed to make you feel at home with their warm and caring attitudes. The city is the birthplace of ice cream (gelato) and you will have your chance to sample some of Florence's best gelateria's.
No matter what time of day you walk down the street, the scent of fresh breads and pastries are sure to entice you. For those of you who want a quick bite to eat, stop by one of the many sandwich shops and grab a slice of pizza, plate of lasagna, or indulge on an Italian dessert. If you want to shop, then you have come to the right place. Florence is known for its designer leather goods and jewelry. Many students every year find great discounts on leather coats and purses. Florence also has it's share of street vendors selling everything from imitation sunglasses to silk goods. Florence is a wonderful place to live!
